Today we live in abundance compared to how Serbs used to live. Instead of this abundance bringing us closer to God, we are ungrateful. Today, there are more adulteries and divorces than ever, warns father Predrag Popović!
– You can do everything over the phone without anyone knowing. Those secret correspondences, looking at pictures, surreptitiously and the rest, that is, unfortunately, very normal nowadays. There have never been more divorces. There have never been more abortions. There have never been more ill-mannered children. Cemeteries have never been bigger. There have never been fewer schools and kindergartens. There have never been more singles than today – Popović pointed out in his Tiktok video.
He emphasized that we live in abundance, that in a few hours we can be wherever we want and find out whatever we want.
– You don’t have to go to the library and read books. You can quickly find out anything you want via the Internet. Everything is available to you. You can eat ice cream in winter, you can eat bananas in winter, watermelon, tomatoes and so on. And instead of an abundance of everything, bringing us closer to God so that we can be grateful to him, we are ungrateful. And then we talk about how difficult the weather is and if it is. And why is it such a difficult time? Well, we are the ones who make that time difficult! – concluded father Predrag.
Fewer marriages took place in Serbia last year than in 2022, but more couples divorced. Almost every third marriage ends in divorce. In our country, in 2023, 31,670 couples got married, while 10,175 spouses decided to divorce, according to the data of the Republic Institute of Statistics (RZS). The number of marriages decreased by 3.5 percent, and the number of divorces increased by 3.7 percent compared to 2022.
On the other hand, marriage therapist Nebojša Savić says that frauds have existed since there have been people, only that today they are easier to detect because of technology.

– Fraud can be physical and emotional. So for someone it’s cheating when you flirt with someone. Not all couples have the same view of it. For some it’s a scam and that’s okay. Now, one definition of cheating is that it’s the wrong kind of intimacy with someone. I agree that today’s technology enables contacts in a way that we didn’t have in the past and that in fact the mobile phone is the most used to cheat because it enables some kind of hidden communication without personal contact in public and the largest number of frauds are discovered through correspondence, i.e. with the help of a mobile phone – pointed out Savić.
His practice shows that spouses find hidden messages in their phones from unknown numbers, fake profiles.

No one talks about the consequences of fraud, which can be terrible, sexually transmitted diseases, unwanted infertility, suffering of children, torn mustaches, friendships – emphasized Savić.
He points out that an important part of the fraud is this secrecy.
– People invest a lot of time, energy, and money to hide a parallel relationship, instead of using it all to restore their marriage. Fraud has been around for as long as humanity has existed, it’s not a modern phenomenon, it’s just that now social media is exposing it and it’s being talked about more than ever. Social networks enable hidden contact, and a person who wants to cheat with or without Facebook will cheat.
Sociologist Bojan Panaotović pointed out that we do not have precise statistical data for millennia, centuries, epochs, in order to draw concrete conclusions.

Another thing, the fact that divorce used to be a heresy or that adultery was announced, does not mean that it is 1,000 times worse now because it is a more liberal, flexible society, now divorce itself is a more normal thing, but it does not mean that 100 years ago it was healthier and if there was no adultery. What stands as a fact is that modern communications make it easier to slip by the wayside. In themselves, social networks are not bad, some two wonderful souls will meet on Instagram or Facebook, we should not condemn a priori, but it will be easier for you to see something in your free time that can take you and slip you off track – stressed Panaotović.
