Crushed by fierce competition between Sony and Bose, the Beats Studio3 is not the wireless headset that we would recommend first, especially with its launch price close to 400 euros. A classic headset with a little something extra
The Beats Studio3 came out seven years ago, so even if you don’t own one, you’ve probably come across it at least once in your life, whether at a high-tech retailer or sitting on a head in the subway. Its design is easily recognizable, with the Dr. Dre brand logo engraved on the back of the earpieces, but above all a simple and refined appearance. The Beats Studio3 has a circumaural format with pads that cover the ears well and foldable branches for easier storage. On the other hand, its weight of 260 g can be felt on the top of the skull over time.
This headset is rather classic at first glance, but it nevertheless includes an element that can make all the difference: a W1 chip designed by Apple. Originally, it was found on the AirPods to facilitate their connection with an iPhone, an iPad or anything that bears the Apple brand logo. It is the equivalent of Fast Pair for Google or Swift Pair with Microsoft. If you can listen to your music wirelessly with Bluetooth, you can also enjoy wired music with the 3.5 mm jack port but also the USB-C port which allows you to have sound in Lossless format.
Its improvable sound and great battery life
With its 40 mm transducers, the Beats Studio3 offers powerful and immersive sound without too much distortion at high volume, but the bass is dragging and the treble borders on sibilance while the midrange can lack precision. In short, it leaves something to be desired, especially for a headset launched at 400 euros. The Beats Studio3 could have made up for it with active noise reduction but its level is far from reaching what Sony and Bose offer. We are more on a muffling of noise rather than a real cancellation, it is still pleasant if you are not looking for total isolation, in transport for example.
Finally, the Beats Studio3 Wireless is able to offer excellent battery life, partly thanks to the Apple chip that ensures better battery life management. According to the American manufacturer, these headphones can reach a battery life of 22 hours with noise reduction activated and up to 40 hours without. A very comfortable duration to listen to your best playlists during the flight. The recharge also scores points thanks to the manufacturer’s Fast Fuel technology, which allows you to recover three hours of battery life in just 10 minutes of charging.
