What is this centralized storage medium?
To store a large amount of data securely and share it easily, a NAS is often the best solution, although not very widespread. These servers act as a HUB and can store your files, secure backups of your smartphones, but also stream your multimedia content to any device connected to the home network, such as a television or laptop. The TerraMaster F4-424 has dimensions of 222 × 179 × 154 mm and weighs 3.4 kg empty. It is not a small accessory and it is advisable to find a good place for it so as not to have to move it too frequently.
The F4-424 is a 4-bay NAS and is therefore not massive for nothing, and includes four compartments that can each accommodate a 2.5 or 3.5-inch hard drive. It is powered by an Intel N95 (12th gen) quad-core processor clocked at 3.4 GHz, supported by 8 GB of DDR5 RAM. It also has two slots for NVME M.2 SSDs and 4 slots for integrating 2.5 or 3.5-inch drives. In terms of connectivity, you will find two USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, an HDMI output and two 2.5 Gb/s network ports. The F4-424 delivers excellent performance, with good loading and file retrieval speeds. Data transfers between the NAS and your external devices are just as fast if the network to which it is connected is efficient.
On the video side, its iGPU can decode h264, h265, VP9 and even AV1 formats. It is one of the only NAS that currently offers hardware decoding of this last format.
Is this NAS worth it for Prime Day?
Less than €450 is a very good price for a reliable, secure and solid-performing NAS. If you have never used a NAS, manufacturers are fortunately making their use easier and easier, thanks to web interfaces and easy-to-use applications. The F4-424 runs on the TOS 5 operating system (or 6 in beta), with a fluid interface and many features. The minimalist interface allows you to configure your NAS, manage storage, network management, or even manage authorizations.
