Prime Minister Fiala has a new profile on TikTok

Prague – Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) has a new profile in the Chinese application for sharing short videos TikTok. ČTK was informed about this today by the director of the communication department of the Government Office, Václav Smolka. According to him, security matters are ensured. Other politicians, especially opposition ones, have already established their accounts on TikTok.

“Today, there are at least two million Czechs on TikTok. Our goal is not to make Peter Fiala an influencer, but to communicate in a light and understandable form the politics that the prime minister is doing, to bring his work program, opinions and worldview closer to the younger generation,” Smolka told ČTK.

Last March, the National Bureau of Cyber and Information Security (NÚKIB) issued a warning against the installation and use of the Chinese TikTok application on devices with access to systems belonging to critical information infrastructure and other important information systems. NÚKIB’s concern about possible cyber threats stemmed mainly from the amount of data collected about users or the way data is collected and handled.

“Of course, we had to ensure security in the first place. We have the application on the phone intended only for her and nowhere else, thanks to this we avoid possible misuse of sensitive data,” Smolka continued.

Other politicians are also proceeding in the same way. For example, the chairman of the ANO opposition movement Andrej Babiš already told ČTK last March that he understands NÚKIB’s recommendation and has TikTok on a special device that is only used for this application and does not use it for any communication. The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs and the chairman of KDU-ČSL Marian Jurečka also pointed out that, for security reasons, he does not have TikTok downloaded on his mobile phone.
