Production of the old Fiat Panda is discontinued due to low sales

Next month Stellantis will temporarily suspend operations at some assembly and engine plants in Italy, including Fiat Pandinaas its older generation is now called Pandain response to difficult market conditions.

The automaker said today that the planned stoppages will affect the Pomigliano d’Arco, Termoli and Pratola Serra plants for several days between November 11-29.

Stellantis faces challenges, including low demand for its more expensive electric cars and competition from China. It also faces excess inventories in the US that have led it to cut its earnings and cash flow forecasts.

In Italy, it has already suspended production at the historic Mirafiori plant in Turin, which makes the Fiat 500e electric city car and two Maserati sports cars, until November 1.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Franco-Italian-American group said it was determined to “ensure the continuity” of its Italian businesses, but noted it faced “a difficult path that requires difficult choices and offers no easy solutions.”

European Pandina sales fell 41% to 3,873 in August from 6,505 in the same month in 2023.
