The American manufacturer Tesla is launching production of its restyled Model Y in Europe. An expected facelift for this bestseller which is experiencing a decline in sales on the Old Continent.
Tesla starts European production of its Restyled Model Y in his Berlin Gruenheide factory. This major update, the first since 2020, brings significant improvements in terms of comfort and equipment. The American manufacturer thus hopes to boost its sales in Europe, in a context of slowdown in the electric vehicle market.
The Tesla Model Y gets a makeover to go on the attack again
It’s official: Tesla has just launched production of its Model Y restyled in its German factory in Gruenheide, near Berlin, reports Automotive News. A spokesperson for the brand confirmed on January 14 the start of manufacturing of this revisited version, intended for the entire European market. This announcement marks an important step for the American manufacturer, which seeks to revitalize its sales on the Old Continent. Among the notable new features of this model, we note the integration of a new steering wheel, the addition of an infotainment screen for rear passengers, and the installation of blind spot detectors near the mirrors. Tesla has also worked on the acoustic aspect and driving comfort, with the adoption of wheels with an optimized design, less noisy tires, and a revised suspension for more flexibility.
This redesign is the first major update to the Model Y since its launch in 2020. It comes as a continuation of the restyling of the Model 3. This update, known internally under the code name “Juniper”, is of capital importance for Tesla. The manufacturer is immersed in a delicate commercial context, marked by a drop in its sales in Europe. The figures speak for themselves: over the first eleven months of the year, European Model Y registrations fell 48%to reach 181,781 units, according to Dataforce data. This trend is part of a more general slowdown in sales for Tesla, which delivered 1.79 million vehicles worldwide in 2024, a drop compared to 2023.
Pending pricing and performance
If the prices in Europe and France for the restyled Model Y have not yet been revealed, they should be communicated soon. For reference, the current range in France ranges between 40,990 (after application of the Tesla bonus and the ecological bonus) and 57,990 euros. In China, where the restyled model is already marketed, Tesla implemented a 5.4% increase in the base price, bringing it to $35,900. The Chinese market also benefits from a notable improvement in range, which increases to 719 kilometers for the long range version, compared to 688 kilometers previously.
Industry experts remain divided as to the impact of this restyling. Patrick Hummel, analyst at UBS, believes that this update should solve the Model Y’s image problem, increasingly considered an aging product. However, he tempers his analysis by emphasizing that this facelift will probably not constitute a “game changer” for competitors in the segment. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves, the Model Y hasn’t even hit the market yet. With his new face, he could create a surprise and boost his sales to the delight of Elon Musk, the boss of Tesla.
