Apple will wait a little longer with a MacBook Air with OLED screen. While previous information pointed to a launch in 2027, consumers will need to be patient for another year.
The information published by The Elec comes from anonymous sources at display manufacturers. They believe that Apple has postponed the production of an OLED MacBook Air by at least a year. This would reportedly not be released in 2027, but only in 2028.
According to the sources Apple is running into the costs of OLED screens, which means it cannot sell its new MacBook Air to consumers at a good price. Apple hopes for more competition in that area, so that the price of such screens drops quickly. But that’s not the only reason behind the delay.
MacBook Air with OLED delayed by iPad Pro
Apple itself has not yet confirmed it, but the industry is unanimous. The fact that Apple is releasing its MacBook Air with OLED display a year later has to do with the OLED version of the iPad Pro. The model shows that an OLED screen does not persuade consumers to buy a new tablet.
At the end of 2023, Apple expected to ship ten million iPad Pro models with OLED screens by the end of 2024. At the beginning of this year, it lowered that expectation to 8.5 million models shipped. Expectations have now been adjusted once again and Apple expects to ship between six and seven million units.
The OLED iPad Pro sold excellently in the second quarter of 2024, but the figures have fallen sharply since then.
