The Young People’s Party (POT) announced on Wednesday that, up to this moment, 125 parliamentarians have signed for the suspension of President Klaus Iohannis.
According to POT, all the parliamentarians of the party signed for this formation initiative, as well as 91 AUR parliamentarians, one USR parliamentarian – Emanuel Ungureanu and two parliamentarians from SOS.
According to the Constitution, in case of committing serious acts that violate the provisions of the Constitution, the President of Romania can be suspended from office by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, in a joint session, with the vote of the majority of deputies and senators, respectively 234, after consulting the Constitutional Court. The President can give explanations to the Parliament regarding the facts attributed to him.
The proposal for suspension from office can be initiated by at least one third of the number of deputies and senators, i.e. 155 parliamentarians.
POT President, Anamaria Gavrilă, launched, on Monday, the invitation to all parliamentarians to sign the proposal to suspend Klaus Iohannis from office.
We invite all parliamentarians to put national interests above political calculations and sign the initiative to suspend Klaus Iohannis. We forwarded this initiative to all parliamentary parties. It’s time to prove that the parliamentarians are here to serve the people, not the other way around, Gavrila said in a statement.
The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) requested, on Tuesday, the convening of an extraordinary session of the Parliament between January 20 and 24, in order to “call to account” the Government, which “proved to be a simple masquerade of the same ill-fated PSD-PNL government that collapsed Romania’, but also to be able to start the procedure of suspending the ‘illegitimate’ president Klaus Iohannis.
The request was submitted to the Permanent Offices of the two Houses of Parliament on Tuesday by representatives of the AUR parliamentary groups, a press release from the party informed.
