Today, representatives of the Serbian opposition broke into the town hall in Novi Sad and occupied it for a short time. According to their own statements, they did this as a sign of support for the students’ protest demands after the collapse of the canopy at the train station in Novi Sad in November, in which 15 people died.

The representatives of the opposition tried to enter the building again, but the police prevented them from doing so. After the intervention of a special police unit, representatives of the opposition were also removed from the entrance to the town hall. During the scuffle between the opposition representatives and the police, the glass on the front door was broken.

The incident happened after the opposition announced a press conference in the city assembly. Provincial member of the opposition party Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) Radivoje Jovovic explained that several opposition representatives carried out the “diversion” on purpose and called the press conference to divert attention, while others occupied the town hall.
