The PlayStation 30th anniversary conference has just taken place, and Sony fans can finally rejoice: the PlayStation 5 Pro has officially been unveiled… and it costs a lot (€800). Have you been eagerly waiting to get your hands on this new machine? Here’s where to pre-order the PS5 Pro, the new supercharged next-gen console.
The PS5 Pro is finally here. This revelation came as no surprise to anyone, as rumors surrounding the PS5 Pro had intensified in recent months. Several leaks suggested that Sony was preparing a more powerful version of its flagship console, and it was only a matter of days before the company officially confirmed its existence.
These rumors were almost confirmed last week when a promotional banner for the 30th anniversary of PlayStation was released, on which we could see, by zooming in, what seemed to be a sketch of the PS5 Pro. Since 5 p.m., it is no longer a mirage: it really exists and you can soon pre-order it.
PS5 Pro pre-order: where and when to reserve your console?
If you’re a long-time gamer on Sony’s next-gen console, you were probably traumatized by the shortages that occurred when it launched in 2020. Indeed, the price of the console soared, approaching four figures on resale sites, which made the option of a PC configuration for borderline gaming more attractive.
This time, the hype will certainly be less significant, and for good reason: it is not a new generation strictly speaking, but simply an upgrade, as was the case with the PS4 and its Pro model at the time.
Sony opens pre-orders on September 26, 2024. The first units will be available November 7thand several stores like Amazon, Fnac and Boulanger will allow you to reserve the console. The launch price is €799.
What are the major differences between the PS5 Pro and the PS5/PS5 Slim?
First, what stands out with the old PS5 is obviously the design which offers an even more polished version of the console. There are three black bands instead of one, on either side of the front.
The PS5 Pro marks on paper a real leap in terms of power compared to its sisters, the PS5 and the PS5 Slim. It is literally the most powerful console on the market, ahead of the Xbox series X. The Pro is aimed primarily at the most demanding gamers. The most notable difference is in terms of graphics power. With a larger GPU, the PS5 Pro largely outperforms the standard PS5 (10.3 TFlops), which translates into a significant improvement in visuals on the latest AAA titles like Star Wars Outlaws For example.
Ray-tracing, aimed at offering even more realistic reflections and light effects, is also improved on this PS5 Pro. In addition, PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution) technology makes its appearance: a new upscaling system, similar to Nvidia’s DLSS, allowing for even sharper images. Storage capacity is also increased with a 2TB SSD. And it had to be since it now does without a disk drive.
