PSD/Azores. Bolieiro reelected leader with 99.3% of the votes

The president of PSD/Azores, José Manuel Bolieiro, was re-elected on Saturday for a third term as leader of the Azorean social democrats with 99.3% of the votes, in an election in which he was the only candidate.

The party’s regional structure said that Bolieiro achieved 99.3% of the votes in direct elections that had the participation of 1,225 militants, according to a statement.

The 114 delegates to the 26th Regional Congress of the PSD/Azores, scheduled for 25, 26 and 27 October this year, on the island of São Miguel, were also elected.

After voting in the internal elections, Bolieiro assured, in statements to journalists, that he was “available for consensus”, but without giving in to the party’s values, and praised the “paradigm changes” promoted by regional governance.

Earlier, on Tuesday, when presenting his candidacy, Bolieiro, who also leads the Regional Government (PSD/CDS-PP/PPM), said he “strongly believes” that the development of the Azores can benefit from the region’s “geostrategic position”, defending the investment in “science, technology and innovation”.

José Manuel Bolieiro was elected leader of the Azorean social democrats for the first time in 2019, having been re-elected in 2022, after having become president of the Regional Government in 2020.
