PSD Congress rescheduled for October 19 and 20 in Braga – Economy

The 42nd PSD Congress will take place on October 19th and 20th, in Braga, after having been scheduled for next weekend, and having been postponed due to the fire situation.

The information about the new date of the Social Democratic Congress was transmitted by a party source, with the location of the grand meeting remaining the same.

With this change, the PSD Congress will take place after the Government has submitted the State Budget proposal for 2025, by October 10, and approval is still uncertain, as the 80 PSD and CDS-PP deputies are insufficient to guarantee its viability.

In the early afternoon, Luís Montenegro cancelled his entire agenda as Prime Minister and postponed the PSD Congress, which was due to take place on Saturday and Sunday in Braga.

On Monday, when leaving the headquarters of the National Emergency and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC), accompanied by the President of the Republic, the Prime Minister had already warned that the country would experience “difficult times” in the coming days due to the fires.

“We are going to go through difficult times in the coming days, we have to prepare for this and we have to come together for this”, warned the head of Government.

At least seven people have died in the fires that have been raging since Sunday in the north and center of the country, such as Oliveira de Azeméis, Albergaria-a-Velha and Sever do Vouga, Aveiro district, destroying dozens of houses and forcing the closure of roads and highways, such as the A1, A25 and A13.

On Monday, early afternoon, Luís Montenegro had cancelled his entire agenda up until today to “supervise the coordination of the fight against fires”.

The 42nd PSD Congress was scheduled for Saturday and Sunday in Braga to elect the remaining national bodies of the party, after Luís Montenegro was re-elected president of the National Political Commission in direct elections on September 6, with more than 97.45%.
