PSD Secretary General absolutely convinced that the State Budget will pass – Politics

The secretary general of the PSD and leader of the parliamentary group, Hugo Soares, this Sunday, showed himself to be “absolutely convinced” about what the State Budget for 2025 (OE2025) will be made viable and called for “responsibility from opposition parties”.

“I am absolutely committed and convinced that, with the responsibility of the opposition parties, the continent, like Madeira, will also have a good Budget, above all with one objective: to change and improve people’s lives”, he stated.

Hugo Soares was speaking to journalists upon arrival at Herdade do Chão da Lagoa, located in a mountainous area on the outskirts of Funchal, where the annual PSD/Madeira festival is taking place today.

“Let’s see who will make the budget viable on the continent”he said, in a comment on the fact that Chega made the Regional Government Program (PSD) for the 2024-2028 legislature viable, as well as the region’s Budget for 2024, by abstaining from voting on the documents in the Legislative Assembly.

“We haven’t had the vote on the continent yet,” he warned.

On Friday, the Government, led by social democrat Luís Montenegro, met with all opposition parties with seats in parliament on the State Budget for 2025, with the exception of the PSD and CDS-PP, which cancelled their participation in this first round.

The Prime Minister was initially scheduled to attend these meetings. However, for health reasons, Luís Montenegro has cancelled his attendance at all political events to date, including the PSD/Madeira Festival.

After the meeting on Friday, which took place at the Prime Minister’s official residence in São Bento, Lisbon, the president of Chega, André Ventura, stated that the party is serious about negotiating the next State Budget and said he felt “a positive attitude” from the Government, but warned that “it cannot play on two boards”.

This Sunday, in Chão da Lagoa, the PSD secretary-general recalled that, during the first three months of the legislature, Chega has highlighted the fact that its electoral programme has similarities with that of the PS and has “approved measures with the Socialist Party”.

“Therefore, I believe it is also possible that Chega’s program has ideas similar to other programs,” said Hugo Soares.

The Chão da Lagoa Festival, considered the largest party event organized annually in the autonomous region, began at 8:00 am and continued until the end of the afternoon, with several stalls run by the 54 parish political committees and other party structures, as well as around 40 stallholders.
