PSD will decide whether to support the candidacy of Klaus Iohannis for Parliament

“The National Permanent Bureau of the Social Democratic Party meets on Monday, September 23, 2024, from 11:00 a.m., in physical and online format, at the headquarters of the PSD in Kiseleff Street, no. 10”, the representatives of the social democrats announced on Sunday.

The president of the PSD, Marcel Ciolacu, was asked on Saturday if he supports the PNL project. My opinion is that no additional legislation is needed for the president to run, Ciolacu said during a visit to Cluj-Napoca.

“I’m sorry to disappoint. I think that in political life, but also in executive life, it is good to assume things, not to hide behind decisions that we leave the vote free, Romanians do not believe in such approaches. (…) We will gather the BPN on Monday to make a decision together with my colleagues, as is correct”. Ciolacu answered.

He said that he analyzed the observations of the Legislative Council and asked the specialists inside the PSD to present a point of view.

“At first glance, after the observations from the Legislative Council, my opinion, but I am also waiting for the expertise of my colleagues, is that there is no need for additional legislation for Mr. President, if he wants to run, to run, I think there are more things technical, of collecting signatures only for him, being independent on those lists”, said Marcel Ciolacu.

The PNL has submitted a draft law to the Parliament which will allow the president to run for parliamentary elections in the last three months of his mandate.
