At the turn of the year, the two main programs on public broadcasting show two live New Year’s Eve programs. Florian Silbereisen competes from Munich against the ZDF show from the Brandenburg Gate.

ARD and ZDF will independently broadcast two live shows at the turn of the year. ARD is showing the traditional Eurovision show live from the BMW Park in Munich again after years, as the responsible public broadcaster Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation (BR) announced.

The show “New Year’s Eve Schlagerbooom 2025 live – The Wonderlight Show!” is presented by Florian Silbereisen and is a joint production by BR, ORF in Austria and SRF in Switzerland. “The showmaster celebrates with many stars and surprises – and of course with many hits to sing along to,” it said in a statement.

On New Year’s Eve, ZDF will broadcast the show “Welcome 2025” live from the Brandenburg Gate with Andrea Kiewel and Johannes B. Kerner, as the broadcaster in Mainz announced. Kiewel and Kerner have been hosting the traditional live show together since 2017.

ARD so far with a pre-recorded New Year’s Eve show

According to the information, ARD did not have a live show in its program on New Year’s Eve in previous years. Since 2019, the Eurovision shows have always been pre-recorded and then broadcast with a delay on New Year’s Eve – after a five-year break there is now a live show again.

In 2023 and 2022, actor Hans Sigl (“The Mountain Doctor”) presented the programs with the Swiss singer and presenter Francine Jordi. According to BR, both decided not to continue moderation “for personal and time reasons”. From 2017 to 2021, Jörg Pilawa hosted the New Year’s Eve show with Jordi.
