Published monographic art album Ludolfs Liberts

Ludolfs Liberts (1895–1958) is one of the brightest talents who has brilliantly proven himself, together with the classic modernist generation, creating the cultural environment of free Latvia charged with bubbling energy. The purposeful activity of Ludolfs Liberts covers both painting, graphics and examples of practical decorative art, but the field of scenography is special, where his performance in the context of the era was marked by brilliant international success. Libert’s contribution is also notable as the director of the Latvian State Paper Printing House and Mint, as well as his public work in emigration in Germany and the USA.

In the book, Libert’s life and contribution to painting has been examined in an extensive study by prominent art scholar Dace Lamberga. Natalija Yevsejeva, the curator of Ludolf Libert’s exhibition at LNMM, has researched Ludolf Libert’s brilliant heritage in scenography and costume art by surveying the archives of opera houses and museums in Europe, both near and far. It is accompanied by small insights into the collaboration between Libert and the famous German director Max Reinhardt (Ulrich Hermann)as well as Libert’s contribution to the Kaunas Musical Theater repertoire (Helmut Šabasevičius). Summary of Liberta’s activities in the world of theater in connection with the directing tasks of the time – Edīte Tishheizer. Klāvs Priedītis examines the activities of Ludolfs Liberts in the field of graphics and at the State Paper Printing House.

The release of the work dedicated to the multifaceted personality of Libertas coincides with the master’s large solo exhibition at the Latvian National Art Museum at the end of 2024, as well as with Libertas’ 130th anniversary in early 2025.
