Putin approved a new “Strategy for Countering Extremism”

The term “Russophobia” was used there for the first time.

Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a new “Strategy for Countering Extremism.” Corresponding decree posted on the official portal for the publication of legal acts.

The basic concepts of the strategy demonstrate the structural orientation of the document. In particular, the text uses the words “extremism”, “manifestation of extremism”, “Russophobia”, “xenophobia”, “subjects of countering extremism”, “financing extremist activities”, “ideology of violence”, “radicalism” and extremist ideology.”

“The fight against extremism” includes three main stages:

  • development of an action plan that involves the adoption of legislative acts,
  • carrying out these activities and monitoring their implementation, “forecasting the emergence of extremist threats”,
  • conclusion “based on the results achieved.”

In addition, it is planned to involve various NGOs in anti-extremist activities.

The document replaces the current “Strategy for Countering Extremism in the Russian Federation.”
