Putin is deploying a real big cannon to curb the Ukrainian advance in Kursk

Ukrainian troops launched another attack in Russia in recent days. The aim of the operations is clearly to push back Russian attempts to recapture the Kursk salient. The Kremlin is trying to put an end to the Ukrainian presence in the region as quickly as possible, since US President Donald Trump will soon take office, so peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine can begin.

One of the most critical points of the discussions may be the issue of territories, and in this case, the Russian territories in Kiev’s hands may form an important basis for exchange.

Russian sources claim that they stopped the Ukrainian advance and destroyed a large marching column on the main road to the city of Kursk. Kyiv did not comment on this statement. In August 2024, Ukraine launched a surprise attack on the territory of Kursk County in Russia and quickly occupied an area of approximately 1,000 square kilometers. In the time since then the Russians have grouped a significant amount of forces in the region and are trying to eliminate the Ukrainian presence with continuous attacks. So far, this has not been completely achieved, but half of the territories have already been reclaimed.

General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov served as the Kremlin’s deputy defense minister and was tasked with leading Russia’s border defenses and leading Moscow’s mercenary projects in Africa. According to the information, they were sent to the area just a few hours after they learned about the action. He was previously the governor of Ingushetia, where he also survived an assassination attempt with life-threatening injuries.
