Putin welcomes Trump’s interest in contact, but it is necessary to wait for him to take office News

Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomes incoming US President Donald Trump’s interest in mutual contact, but so far no such request has been received.

Today, according to Reuters, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that it is necessary to first wait for Trump to take office in the White House. Trump will take the presidential oath on January 20.

In recent weeks, both Trump and Putin have expressed a willingness to negotiate with each other. In addition, Trump promised during the election campaign that, as president, he would be able to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours of taking office. New to the conflict, which began with a Russian military invasion three years ago, he said he hoped for a ceasefire within six months.

The plan of Trump’s future proxy on the issue, retired Lt. Gen. Keith Kellogg, calls for putting pressure on both Ukraine and Russia.

In Kiev and in a number of European countries, there is concern about Trump’s actions. The outgoing administration of President Joe Biden was the most important supporter of Ukraine in defense against invasion.

Peskov commented today on Trump’s statements that he would like to acquire Greenland, which is part of Denmark, for the United States. Asked by reporters if he ruled out military and economic coercion in this effort, Trump said he could not. Trump also expressed interest in Canada, but ruled out a military trip.

A Kremlin spokesman said that the Arctic region, to which Canada and Greenland belong, falls within Russia’s zone of strategic national interests. He added that Russia is closely following “dramatic developments” and that it is striving for peace and stability in the polar regions.
