Putin will demand that Ukraine not join NATO in the talks with Trump

Russia will demand that Ukraine cut ties with NATO and become a neutral state with a limited military in upcoming talks with US President-elect Donald Trump, according to Bloomberg, writes The Kyiv Independent.
Trump expressed his willingness to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin immediately after his inauguration with the goal of quickly ending the war in Ukraine, citing his good relations with the Russian leader.
Moscow’s position includes maintaining control over nearly 20 percent of Ukraine’s territory, including Crimea, which it annexed in 2014. While Russia is open to territory swaps and insists that NATO member states continue to supply Ukraine with weapons, as long as as long as they are not used against Russia or for the recapture of occupied territories.
Current talks between Ukraine and Russia are focused on prisoner exchanges and the return of deported children, and other “limited discussions” are taking place in Qatar regarding the protection of nuclear facilities.
Trump’s peace envoy emphasized that the main objective is “saving Ukraine and its sovereignty”, but expressed concern about possible compromises that could harm Ukraine’s interests, given that proposals such as freezing the front line and delaying accession Ukraine’s NATO bids have already been rejected by Russia.
