Qualcomm canceled its Snapdragon Dev Kit with the X Elite, saying it wasn’t good enough

Company Qualcomm she wanted to do with her processors Snapdragon X Elite a big hole in the world, which was also believed by the CEO of ARM, on whose architecture these processors are built. He claimed that within five years ARM should have half of the computer market. However, this architecture doesn’t seem to be getting anywhere near that very ambitious goal, and Qualcomm’s moves aren’t helping it much either. The promises of the new X Elite processors are only partially fulfilled, and one of the most fundamental obstacles of the new platform, software (in)compatibility, has just received a big blow. Qualcomm had planned to offer small PCs Snapdragon Dev Kitwhich was intended to help developers more easily develop applications for the Windows on Arm operating system and thus bring users more native applications for this system. But this mini-PC has been cancelled.

The company announced this to its customers who pre-ordered the new product and will refund their money. According to Qualcomm, this computer does not typically meet excellent quality standards. Let us recall here that this computer had a special version of the Qualcomm Snapdrafon X Elite X1E-00-1DE processor, the maximum frequency of which was increased from 4.2 to 4.3 GHz. Unfortunately, as it turned out, ARM can be a very economical architecture for less demanding applications, but it can also have very high consumption in high-frequency loads, and Snapdragon took over 100 W here.

Developers have now been referred to Discord, the developer portal at qualcomm.com and the Qualcomm Device Cloud (QDC) for further support, but unfortunately the hardware for SW development will not be available in this mini-PC form. But this does not mean that other companies may not catch on in the future.
