Qualcomm: Critical vulnerability threatens millions of smartphones

A zero-day vulnerability in Qualcomm chips endangers Android smartphones worldwide. Security researchers warn of targeted attacks. A patch is available.

Chip manufacturer Qualcomm has a critical security vulnerability in a variety of mobile processors and wireless technology chips. This zero-day vulnerability, known as CVE-2024-43047, affects millions of Android smartphones and tablets worldwide and could allow unauthorized access to the devices.

The vulnerability affects a wide range of Qualcomm chips, including the Snapdragon models 660, 680, 685, 865, 870, 888, 888+ and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 platform. These chips are found in many Android devices, including flagship models such as the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, OnePlus 10 Pro and Xiaomi 12.

The vulnerability was discovered by Google’s Threat Analysis Group and Amnesty International’s Security Lab, as Qualcomm with more details reveals.

Qualcomm has already released a patch for the vulnerability. It is now up to the manufacturers of the affected devices to distribute this patch to end users. Users should ensure that their devices are up to date to protect themselves from possible attacks.
