Qualcomm is Planning a More Affordable X Series Processor

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X processors bring a new approach to Windows laptops, delivering days of battery life; This is a clear advantage over the nature of traditional laptop processors. However, their high prices make them unattainable for many people. This may change soon, as rumor has it that a more affordable Snapdragon X series processor is on the way.

The Snapdragon X series started with the “Elite”, a premium processor designed to compete with Apple’s M series processors in high-end laptops. These devices typically cost over $1,200, limiting them to casual users.

Qualcomm later introduced the “Plus” model, which dropped laptop prices to around $1,000. Then in September, they also introduced a more budget-friendly version of the Snapdragon X Plus, making its way into devices like the Lenovo IdeaPad 5x 2-in-1 and launching for $849.

Now it appears that Qualcomm is planning to offer even more affordable chips for Windows laptops. At a recent Investor Day presentation, Qualcomm shared about an “entry-level” Snapdragon X-series processor aimed at Windows laptops under $700. Qualcomm hopes this new model will bring Snapdragon X technology to a wider audience.

Details about the performance of the processor remain unclear. Qualcomm has confirmed that it will feature the same Neural Processing Unit (NPU) found in higher-end models. The NPU provides the impressive battery life and AI features these processors are known for.

It also means that laptops powered by this processor will have the Copilot + PC process, which requires minimum specifications such as 16 GB DDR5 RAM and 256 GB SSD storage. These features are likely to appear even on more affordable devices.

Qualcomm has not yet announced a release date, but the fact that CES 2025 will be held in January reveals that Qualcomm will take advantage of this opportunity.
