The new chipset offers substantial performance increases in addition to a name change.

At the event Snapdragon Summit now has Qualcomm presented its newest chipset, the one that has been generally referred to as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 but is now being launched as the Snapdragon 8 Elite.

It is the first mobile chipset to use Qualcomm’s new Oryon processor, which in presented measurements shows significant performance improvements compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, thanks, among other things, to a maximum clock frequency of 4.32 GHz and 24 MB cache. The new processor offers 45 percent higher performance for both single-core and multi-core calculations, as well as up to 62 percent higher performance when browsing the web.

The graphics part of the Snapdragon 8 Elite has been improved by 40 percent, and ray tracing performance has increased by 35 percent. In addition, energy efficiency has increased by 44 percent, leading to a total energy consumption reduction of 27 percent.

The neural processor (NPU) has also seen a significant improvement with 45 percent higher AI performance. In terms of audio support, the Snapdragon 8 Elite can handle 24-bit 48 kHz over Bluetooth and up to 24-bit 96 kHz over Wi-Fi. The modem, X80 5G Modem-RF System, supports 4×6 MIMO for faster and more stable connection.
