Queen Camilla is going through a difficult time after losing one of her dearest companions, the dog Beth, who was by her side for 13 years. The Jack Russell terrier was euthanized late last week due to an untreatable tumor.
Beth had a special story: she was adopted in 2011 from Battersea Dogs And Cats Home. Since then, she has become an integral part of the Queen’s life, even attending official events. The most memorable moment was in 2020 when Beth helped to open a new dog shelter in Battersea by pulling a sausage tied to the curtain to unveil the commemorative plaque.
“He was a very special companion who brought so much joy, whether it was for walks, official duties or quiet moments by the fire,” Buckingham Palace said in an emotional message.
Queen Camilla has resumed her public duties
The Queen’s love for Beth and Bluebell, another terrier adopted in 2012, was so great that both dogs were featured in gold embroidery on the historic coronation dress.
Peter Laurie, chief executive of Battersea Dogs And Cats Home, where Queen Camilla is a patron, also expressed his sadness: “We know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet and Beth was really very special.”
The news comes just days after Queen Camilla resumed her public duties following a chest infection that kept her away from events, Sky News notes.
