Quote: end of Blokker approaching – Emerce

Blokker is said to have decided to ‘throw in the towel’ and is heading for bankruptcy. That reports Quote. The company is said to have requested a deferral of payment. Parent company Mirage Retail Group says that this is not yet the case. All those involved will be informed on Monday.

It was known that things were going badly for Blokker. Blokker’s accountant, KMPG, already warned of financial problems in August.

At the beginning of this year, the company hoped to find a buyer who could offer the retail chain a financially healthy future. Ultimately, the company was able to borrow money from an American investment company.

4,000 employees work at Blokker, which has 400 stores in the Netherlands.

The retail formula has suffered greatly from competition from chains such as Action. Blokker was not strong enough online, although a partnership with Amazon.nl was recently announced.

It would be the second bankruptcy of Mirage Retail Group in a short time. Last year, BCC derailed, some of whose stores were converted by MediaMarkt.

At the beginning of this week, Intertoys was sold to a Belgian party.
