Renault has just signed a new partnership with a French Ligue 1 football club. The R5 will be displayed on the jerseys.
After rugby and tennis, Renault continues its “stadium tour” and investment in sport, by becoming a partner of AS Monaco (ASM), a football club playing in Ligue 1 McDonald’s and the Champions League next season. But the French manufacturer will above all put a new model in the spotlight, its highly anticipated electric city car, the R5.
The “R5” logo on the jerseys but not always in the same place
But what position will this Renault 5 E-Tech play? Well, pretty much everywhere in fact. Its “R5” logo will appear proudly on the front of all team jerseys during the Champions League matches, the most prestigious club football competition, which determines the European champion each season, so to speak.
Thibaut Chatelard, Marketing & Revenue Director of AS Monaco : “Welcome to Renault and its Renault 5 E-Tech electric to the big family of AS Monaco partners! As our club returns to the Champions League next season, marked by the Centenary of our institution, we are very happy to be able to count on Renault’s support during our European campaign and throughout the Ligue 1 season which promises to be exciting. This new partnership with a world-class group like Renault and their Renault 5 E-Tech electric, both iconic and responsible, once again demonstrates the attractiveness of AS Monaco. We look forward to starting our collaboration and helping each other achieve our goals.”
For Ligue 1 McDonald’s (yes, that’s the official name), the French football championship, the Renault 5 will be more discreet. Its logo will be present on the “pocket” space of the players’ kit, normally above the logo of the club’s equipment supplier.
Thus, the Renault Group will also find a brand that it knows well as an equipment supplier since Kappa, partner of AS Monaco, has also been in charge of creating the Alpine F1 Team jerseys for several seasons.
A fleet of around twenty vehicles for the club
But the presence of the Renault 5 E-Tech does not stop at sponsorship on the jersey. To promote the manufacturer’s new flagship mobility solution, Renault is providing ASM with a fleet of around twenty vehicles. However, they will probably not have the red and white color of the car we customized for you in the image on the cover of the article. At the same time, the two entities will carry out numerous actions, not yet defined, to promote the R5.
Even though the model doesn’t really need advertising! From its first appearance, the electric city car has captured hearts. In just a few days, nearly 50,000 pre-reservations have been recorded by the manufacturer. Even though its price has still not been revealed.
For now, the R5 is only available with its big battery and two high-end finishes called Techno and Iconic, and starts at €33,490, eco bonus not deducted. Since the model is 100% French, once the eco bonus of €4,000 is deducted, the R5 therefore falls below the €30,000 mark. This is more than Renault’s promise of a city car for less than €25,000. But don’t forget that for now, the Renault 5 E-Tech does not yet offer its entry-level finish and its small battery. It will therefore fall below this symbolic threshold later.
