Race in India in doubt, finances again a problem

The MotoGP round in India is in doubt, with rumors suggesting it will not be on the 2025 calendar.

According to Autosport, the race will be canceled due to a lack of financial support for the event from Invest UP, the investment agency of the government of Uttar Pradesh, the federal state where the race is held.

The Indian Grand Prix debuted on the MotoGP calendar in 2023, when it was won by Marko Beceki and promoted by Fairstreet Sports.

Invest UP took over the promotion of the 2025 event as part of a deal signed with MotoGP rights holder Dorn that was due to run until 2029.

This year’s round has been canceled for financial reasonsand in the end it was replaced by the big prize of Emilia Romagna, which was run last weekend.

The 2025 edition of the Indian Grand Prix has been moved from the September date when the race was held in 2023 and was due to be held this year before the cancellation, to a new date in March in the hope that weather conditions will be more favourable.

The new March date would position India as part of the season-opening Asian race series, which kicks off with the Thai Grand Prix on the first weekend in March.

The full calendar has yet to be announced for 2025, but several races — including Thailand, Germany, the Czech Republic and a new venue in Hungary — have already been confirmed.

Available information suggests that the Argentine Grand Prix will return to the calendar next seasonhaving missed 2024 due to a dramatic change in economic policy brought about by Javier Miley, who became Argentina’s president in December 2023.
