Gloomy clouds covered the sky, the rain fell continuously, quietly, like tears that flowed down the faces of those present. Crying filled the streets of Cetinje, they say that Lovćen also cried, while many citizens silently followed seven of the twelve victims of the unimaginable tragedy to their eternal rest.
“They were ordinary people, our friends, our neighbors,” one of the attendees told the “Vijesti” reporter through tears.
Hundreds of citizens of Cetinje, as well as other cities, said goodbye yesterday at the New Cemetery in Cetinje to the victims of the mass murder committed by Aco Martinović January 1st. They waited for hours to express their condolences and attend the funeral of the victims.
Martinović killed seven men, three women and two children, and then shot himself in the head after the police surrounded him. He died on the way to the “Danilo I” hospital in Cetinje…

Wound of the whole of Cetinje
Those present told the “Vijesti” reporter that the event is a wound for the whole of Cetinje.
They said that they have not yet recovered from the victims of the mass murder that happened in 2022, when Vuk Borilović killed ten people in the settlement of Medovina, among them two boys, two brothers.
They commented among themselves that they did not know what kind of torment had come over their city.
Since early morning yesterday, the city was shrouded in an eerie silence. The rain made the day even more gloomy, and the wind carried the painful sobs of people mourning their loved ones at the cemetery.
Throughout the day, people arrived in the city, many carrying wreaths and flowers. Dressed in black, with visible pain on their faces and umbrellas in their hands, they gathered in long columns in front of the cemetery.
In the silence that overwhelmed Cetinje, they only heard sobs and whispered prayers. Elderly people slowly approached the coffin to pay their respects to the victims.
Despite the large number of people, there was complete silence at the cemetery, as confirmation that no words can describe the tragedy that befell Cetinje and Montenegro.
While the citizens left the cemetery, the families of the victims remained, not wanting to say goodbye. The silence that remained behind them was an almost palpable, unrelenting reminder of a great tragedy.
The rain continued to fall in the late afternoon, while Cetinje remained shrouded in black. Lovćen was still hidden by the fog, as if he himself was grieving for the lost lives. People returned to their homes, carrying the weight of the day with them.
While the candles continued to burn in the night, the capital remained silent, covered with gray clouds and the sound of rain – a symbol of sadness, but also of the common hope that something like this will never happen again. Twelve extinguished lives, twelve stories that were violently interrupted, among them children who carried with them the joy of childhood and whose future was just beginning. But also older ones, pillars of families.
Twelve minutes of silence
In the past two days, people gathered in many cities of Montenegro and the region to pay their respects to the victims of the tragic event in Cetinje. In Tivat, the citizens gathered at Pina at exactly 12 o’clock, where they dedicated 12 minutes of silence for the twelve victims of Cetinje.

The student movement “Kamo Sutra” has announced two civic gatherings for tomorrow.
