Two days after joining Rajbari, new Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia met the family of Shaheed Abdul Gani who was shot in the student movement.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Deputy Commissioner went to Abdul Gani’s house in Khankhanapur new market area of Sadar Upazila and presented new clothes to his wife Lucky Akhtar and daughter Jannat Akhtar.
Besides, he took various types of delicious fruits and daily essential food items for the family members. Martyr Abdul Gani’s wife Lucky Akhtar and daughter Jannat Akhtar were overwhelmed with emotion after meeting the Deputy Commissioner at their home. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner assured them that they would be given the donation money from July Smriti Foundation.
Shaheed Abdul Gani (45) is the son of Abdul Majeed Sheikh of New Bazar area of Khankhanapur Union of Rajbari Sadar Upazila. He was the sole earner in the family. His wife Lucky Akhter, 20-year-old son Alamin Sheikh and six-year-old daughter Jannat have lost him.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Siddharth Bhowmik, Rajbari Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) were also present with the District Commissioner. Rabiul Alam, Negarat Deputy Collector (NDC) Nahid Ahmed and Assistant Commissioner Drahan Pal. Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miya took charge as the new Deputy Commissioner of Rajbari District on November 3. Earlier on October 30, Ministry of Public Administration’s Field Administration-2 announced Deputy Secretary of Shipping Ministry Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia as Deputy Commissioner of Rajbari District.
It is to be noted that Abdul Gani worked in the technical department of the residential hotel called Six Seasons in Gulshan-2 of the capital. On the morning of July 19, Gani left his home in Gupipara, North Badda, Dhaka, walking towards his workplace. On the way, he got into a conflict surrounding the student movement in the Banshtala area of Shahjadpur. During the encounter, he was shot on the right side of the head. After being shot, Gani lay on the road for a long time. Later local people took him to the hospital where the doctor declared him dead.
