Ralf Schumacher He came out as gay in a social media post.
The 49-year-old German driver, who has won six Grand Prix during a decade-long career in Formula Oneposted a photo on Instagram of himself with his partner Etiennewhile they watch the sunset hugging each other on a boat.
Next to the image, Schumacher wrote: “The most beautiful thing in life is having the right partner by your side with whom you can share everything.”.
Ralf is the younger brother of the seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacherdrove for Jordan, Williams and Toyota in a career that lasted from 1997 to 2007. He competed in a total of 180 races and achieved 27 podium finishes.
He now works as a commentator for Sky Sport Germaniathe broadcaster that reported the news of his coming out.
Carmen Geiss, a German television personality, businesswoman and longtime friend of Schumacher, responded to the post, writing: “I love you both so much. You have the best partner, Etienne, that anyone could imagine. After 2 years you can finally show your love to the world”.
“I have known Ralf for over 25 years and he has always given me great joy. Always kind, a kind-hearted person who I can call day and night and above all he has always been honest with me”he added.
“I am happy to have been part of this love and even happier for the two who sought each other and found each other, because I also deeply love Etienne”he concluded.
