Ram Rampage gets better for 2025, but it’s not for everyone

Although America is the undisputed trucklandiathere are some models that are still considered forbidden fruits. They are above all the mid size pickup as the indestructible Toyota Hiluxtogether with the Isuzu D-Max (and its twin Mazda BT-50), the Nissan Navara, the Volkswagen Amarok and the Mitsubishi L200.

To these is added the Ram Rampage whose name was resurrected last year, but not by Dodge (where it originally belonged). Instead, it was branded as Ram and sold in Brazil, where the small pickup has already received an update for 2025.

New engine, old gearbox

Again, therefore, without a visa for the United States and we will also add for Europe, the Ram Rampage, the Aries pick-up created for the South American market, but which is also very popular in the North and West, receives a more powerful diesel engine and also a trim level Big Horn. Out is the old 2.0-litre turbodiesel and in is the new 2.2-litre. The diesel engine has a power of 200 HP and a torque of 450 Nm: 30 HP and 72 Nm more than the previous engine

l pick-up unibody Ram uses the same nine-speed automatic transmission as before (not the best), but with 14% longer ratios to reduce fuel consumption. TO the change startsRam, even on the more “human” pick-ups, so to speak, aligns itself with the same Stellantis engines present here in Europe, where we remember that the 2.2 turbodiesel on the Ducato is combined with the new AT8.

This diesel pick-up is not sporty by any means, but it reaches 100/km/h in less than 10 seconds. Ram claims it takes 6.4 seconds to go from 60 to 100 km/h and 8 seconds from 80 to 120 km/h. The 2.2-liter diesel is available across the entire range, with the exception of the R/T trim, where the 2.0-liter Hurricane petrol engine is installed which is capable of producing 272 HP and 440 Nm sufficient to make the Ram Rampage the most powerful and fastest pick-up produced in South America.

There is also the new entry level version

For 2025, Ram will also launch one in Brazil versione Big Horn. This is an entry-level version, available only with a diesel engine. Until now, Stellantis produced the Rampage Big Horn at its plant in Goiana, IN Pernambucoexclusively for export markets. Prices have not been disclosed, but they will certainly be cheaper than Rampage Rebeloffered in Brazil at the equivalent of around 41,700 euros, where the top of the range is now the R/T version.

Ram Rampage is sold exclusively with 4×4 traction and as mentioned, nine-speed ZF automatic transmission. For lovers of technology, it is built on the Stellantis Small Wide 4×4 LWB platform, which makes it mechanically related to the Jeep Compass, the Alfa Romeo Tonale and the Dodge Hornet. The less known Jeep Commandera seven-seater SUV sold in India, uses the same platform.

What are the chances of getting Rampage in the US? About a year ago, UAW Vice President Rich Boyer said that a medium sized truck it would be built at the Stellantis plant in Belvidere, Illinois. However, when we reached out to Ram, a company spokesperson declined to confirm or provide comment. As if that wasn’t enough, Stellantis recently said it wants delay the factory reopening plans.

The Rampage isn’t the only Stellantis truck not found in the United States. Updated earlier this year, the Ram 1200 it’s a trademarked pickup truck related to the Peugeot Landtrek and Fiat Titano, which trace their roots to China’s Changan Kaicene F70. There are also the Ram 1000, based on the Fiat Toro, and the Ram 700much smaller, based on the Fiat Strada.
