Reaction from Turkey to the smear campaign: Irreplaceable

At the Gaza session held at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), member countries pointed out that the humanitarian situation in Gaza was deteriorating and underlined the importance of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

The UNSC session, where the humanitarian situation in Gaza was discussed, was held at the request of Algeria and Slovenia.

Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, pointed out that UNRWA was subjected to a malicious and politically motivated smear campaign.

Noting that the attacks against UNRWA personnel and facilities are unacceptable, Yıldız stated that they condemn the attacks in question.

– “UNRWA CANNOT BE REPLACED”

Yıldız said, “UNRWA supports Palestinian refugees with its authority, function, institutional structure and more than 70 years of experience and is irreplaceable.” he emphasized.

Noting that UNRWA is not only a key humanitarian aid organization, Yıldız also said that the agency is a stabilizing force in the region.

Ambassador Yıldız said, “Attacks against UNRWA pose a serious threat to international peace and security. The agency exists because there is no political solution.” he said.

Underlining that the UNSC must take immediate action to protect UNRWA, Yıldız also called on all member countries to increase their support.

Yıldız noted that Turkey provided an additional $2 million in aid to UNRWA this year.

Stating that it is clear that the main purpose of Israel’s attacks on UNRWA is to destroy the agency, Yıldız said, “UNRWA represents the honorable right of Palestinian refugees to return. The ultimate target is Palestinian refugees and their refugee status.” made his assessment.

– “CONFLICTS ARE SPREADING LIKE HELLFIRE IN THE MIDDLE EAST”

Slovenia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Samuel Zbogar, reminded that they condemned Hamas’s October 7 attacks and said, “However, how can a terrorist attack result in the indiscriminate death of 40 thousand civilians, including women and children? We have difficulty understanding this.” he said.

Noting that the situation in Gaza threatens international peace and security, Zbogar said, “Conflicts in the Middle East are spreading like hellfire.” he said.

Zbogar reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire, stating that further war will not bring back the captives.

Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vassily Nebenzia, pointed out that Israel used October 7 and said, “This tragedy gave you the opportunity to collectively punish the Palestinians in a brutal and inhumane manner for a year.” he said.

– “WE NEED TO SEE THE OBSTACLES TO FOOD SHIPMENT DECREASING, NOT INCREASING”

US Permanent Representative to the UN Linda Thomas Greenfield also noted that the US made an urgent call to Israel to protect Palestinian civilians.

Noting that the USA is deeply concerned about Israel’s obstacles to humanitarian aid entering Gaza, Greenfield said, “We need to see the obstacles to food shipment decrease, not increase.” he said.

Greenfield stated that the United States is also deeply concerned about Israel’s proposed law to ban UNRWA.

– “STAYING SILENT IS NOT JUST BEING AN ACCEPT, IT IS PARTICIPATING IN THE CRIME”

Algeria’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amar Bendjama, stated that 900 families were completely erased from the records and 17 thousand children lost their families as a result of Israel’s attacks.

Stating that Gaza has turned into a “ghost city”, Bendjama said that Israel is not carrying out a “military operation”, but is waging a war against the Palestinian people.

Bendjama stated that Israel aims to expel the Palestinians from their homeland and said, “The more the international community continues to ignore, the more Israel’s oppression increases. Staying silent is not just being an accomplice, it is participating in the crime.” he said.

Bendjama stated that Israel has become more emboldened due to the failure of the UNSC and that it has begun to see itself above the law.

Bendjama said, “Those who remain silent today cannot defend the rule of law tomorrow. Only the laws of the jungle will remain.” He warned that if action is not taken, the Middle East will be dragged into an unprecedented war.

– “YOU DO NOT SHOW YOUR TEETH, YOU DO NOT USE THE TOOLS YOU HAVE TO MAKE THEM LISTEN TO YOU”

Palestine’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Riyad Mansur, also stated that it is now very clear that Israel is waging an all-out war against the Palestinian people.

Stating that Israel also declared and targeted anyone who tried to help the Palestinian people as an enemy, Mansur noted that it killed doctors, humanitarian aid workers, UN personnel and journalists at a level never seen before.

Mansur stated that Israel did not forcefully displace the Palestinian people to ensure security, and that the main purpose was to maintain territorial control.

Describing UNRWA as the “success story” of UN history, Mansur emphasized that UNRWA is an indispensable organization and should be protected.

Mansur stated that the UNSC constantly meets and makes the same speeches and said, “Those who are supposed to listen to you are playing with their mobile phones, ignoring you. You do not show your teeth, you do not use the tools you have to listen to you. You keep repeating the same things.” directed his criticisms.

Stating that Israel has now started to do the same thing in Lebanon as it did in Palestine, Mansur said, “Is our blood cheaper? Are our civilians less valuable, or are our lives less sacred?” asked questions.

Mansur. He continued:

“Are you used to our deaths? Are you used to entire neighborhoods being destroyed by their residents, women, children and the elderly being killed? Is this the new normal? Are you used to the Israeli Prime Minister ignoring you, insulting you, but still expecting you to continue your support, your weapons, your trade and your relations? Israel’ “Israel must not have the right to veto the ceasefire.”
