Rear-wheel drive Porsche Macan debuts

Porsche expands the gamma Macan introducing the rear-wheel Drivea new exterior color, the off-road design package and the new Macan 4Swhich sits between the Macan 4 and the Macan Turbo. The 4S features the electronically controlled Porsche Traction Management (ePTM) system, which distributes drive power between the front and rear axles around five times faster than a conventional all-wheel drive system, and with Launch Control accelerates from standstill to 100 km/h in 4.1 seconds, reaches a top speed of 240 km/h and promises a combined WLTP range of up to 606 km.

I prices for Italy Prices have not yet been announced, but in Germany they start at 80,700 euros for the Macan and 90,700 euros for the Macan 4S. Deliveries are scheduled for the second half of the year.

The rear-wheel drive Porsche Macan also has a high-voltage battery with a gross energy content of 100 kWh. Propulsion is provided exclusively by the rear-axle motor used in the Macan 4, with a diameter of 210 millimetres, an active length of 200 mm and an output of 250 kW (340 hp).

Giving up all-wheel drivethe Macan weighs 110 kg less and therefore requires less electricity for propulsion, and its combined WLTP range is up to 641 km.

The Macan 4S has a new rear axle motor and a 600-ampere SiC pulse inverter. Together with the front axle motor also used in the Macan 4 and Turbo, the system output is 330 kW (448 hp) with a short-term overboost of up to 380 kW (516 hp).

The Macan 4S comes with electronic damper control as standard. Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM), has adaptive air suspension with levelling and height adjustment and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus).

More news and off-road design

For all Macan models Porsche has designed a new exterior colorcalled Slate Grey Neo. Also debuting in the price list is a unpublished circle 20-inch Macan S and the off-road design package.

The latter, available as an option for all models (but we don’t yet know how much it costs, offers a different front bumper geometry in combination with the adaptive air suspension; it also increases the height from the ground by 10 mm, bringing it to 195 mm in the normal setting. Porsche offers the package in two colors and matching 21-inch off-road wheels in Vesuvius Grey.

Finally, Porsche has updated the screen design for all Macan models. The Porsche Driver Experience offers a mix of digital and analogue elements that include an instrument cluster with a 12.6-inch curved display, a 10.9-inch passenger display, a head-up display with augmented reality technology and ambient lighting with a communication light.
