Between October 10-12, 2024, the National Congress of Medical Oncology took place in Poiana Brașov. Organized annually by the National Society of Medical Oncology in Romania (SNOMR), this event has grown from year to year, becoming a landmark in the Romanian medical calendar.

With a record number of participants, the event was an opportunity to reconnect between oncologists and those from related specialties, exchange ideas and access the most current information. We enjoyed the presence of over 1,400 participants throughout the congress. 676 participants were present at the Conference Center in Poiana Brașov: doctors, nurses, representatives of patient associations and civil society. Another 726 health professionals joined online.

In the official opening of the congress, a message was addressed by Mr. Minister of Health, Prof. Univ. Alexandru Rafila, together with the President of the Company, Mr. Dr. Răzvan Ovidiu Curcă and representatives of patient associations.

We were honored with the presence of many renowned lecturers from Romanian oncology, together with 27 internationally recognized speakers who brought to the attention of the audience news both from the ASCO Congress and the latest data communicated at the ESMO Congress in September. their involvement, a favorable environment was created for discussions and exchange of ideas, sharing the latest practices and research in the field of oncology, as well as personal experience from clinical practice. Among the objectives of the annual SNOMR Congress is the promotion of the multidisciplinary approach to the oncological patient, a theme addressed in all sessions of the event, with the participation of specialists involved in the management of these complex conditions.

Given that the general objective of SNOMR is to ensure the best care for oncology patients, we invited civil society and patient associations to join us for this edition, an extremely important partnership for the future of oncology. Thus, either in the official opening of the congress or in the sessions, representatives of COPAC, the Alliance for Rare Diseases from Romania, FABC, the Donate Life Association and the Community Health Association joined.

We are also building collaboration between the two Romanian-speaking countries, on both banks of the Prut. A delegation of the Society of Oncology from the Republic of Moldova joined the annual SNOMR event, both through scientific communications and by participating in discussions with the SNOMR management in order to exchange experience and promote excellence in oncology.

Another important milestone on the agenda of the 2024 National Congress of Medical Oncology was the official establishment of the Young Oncologists Division. This is an integral part of society and represents a strategic pillar for our activity. Supporting the new generation of medical oncologists is one of SNOMR’s priorities for the coming years.
