VfB Stuttgart reacted to the gap that arose in attack and signed Ermedin Demirovic from FC Augsburg. The club made the deal official on Tuesday. This means the Swabians are entering new financial spheres.
Vice-champion VfB Stuttgart has a new record transfer: Ermedin Demirovic is moving from league rival FC Augsburg to the Neckar.
The first pictures of Demirovic appeared on Mercedesstrasse on Monday morning. The attacker underwent the obligatory medical check in Bad Cannstatt and passed it. He then signed with the runner-up until 2028.
“Ermedin Demirovic has proven his special quality over several years now. He is one of the top strikers in the Bundesliga. Ermedin is just as impressive as a goalscorer as he is as a provider. His experience and mentality make him an absolute asset to our team,” VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth is quoted as saying.
“I’m really happy to be here at VfB. I can’t wait for it to start. After the game in Stuttgart, I became a fan of this team. I like the way they play and the team. I know a few of the guys, so it probably won’t take me too long to settle in here,” said Demirovic, commenting on his move.
VfB Stuttgart likely to pay record transfer fee
According to consistent media reports, Stuttgart will pay around 21 million euros for the striker, plus possible bonuses, which are said to amount to five million euros. Two million euros of this is even guaranteed. Never before has VfB paid so much money for a player.
The previous record holder was former striker Nico Gonzalez, who moved from Argentina to Germany for a good eleven million euros. Demirovic is more than twice as expensive, if you include the bonuses.
Demirovic there, what happens with Undav and Guirassy?
Demirovic is not considered a direct replacement for Serhou Guirassy, who is looking to move on. In terms of player type, he is more like Deniz Undav. A lively attacker who can also drop back. The 26-year-old is considered the ideal solution for VfB coach Sebastian Hoeneß. Last season he scored 25 points for FCA.
The stalled transfer of Guirassy is still dependent on the severity of his knee injury. The top attacker from the previous season has basically agreed with Borussia Dortmund. BVB wants to trigger the record goalscorer’s (most goals in a VfB season) release clause of over 18 million euros.
Undav’s future is also still uncertain. The international player currently belongs to Brighton, who countered a VfB purchase clause with a buy-back clause. The two teams are negotiating intensively. Undav would then probably break Demirovic’s mark again and also become a record transfer.
VfB may have to acquire another attacker. Youngster Nick Woltemade (who came from Werder Bremen) is not considered a replacement for Guirassy, but rather a promising player.
