Oscar Piastri is also showing convincing performances in Formula 1 in his second season. The McLaren youngster was recently linked with a possible move to Red Bull. But Piastri clearly acknowledged his current employer on the sidelines of the Mexican Grand Prix.
At Thursday’s press conference, Piastri responded to rumors that he could become the focus of Red Bull. However, the Australian made it clear that such speculation would not be true.
“I’m very happy where I am. After this year, I’m under contract for the next two,” explained Piastri. The 23-year-old clearly admitted to McLaren that he was “certainly not looking to go anywhere else.”
“Sport1” recently reported that Red Bull is targeting Lando Norris’ teammate. Accordingly, the reigning world constructors’ champion would toy with the idea of signing Piastri in 2026 as a colleague or successor to Max Verstappen. There are also repeated rumors surrounding the Dutchman about a possible change of scenery in the future.
Formula 1: Dr. Helmut Marko fuels Piastri rumors
Oscar Piastri’s manager Mark Webber knows Red Bull team boss Christian Horner well from his active time in Formula 1.
“Let’s put it this way: Mark Webber is intensively looking for a conversation,” said Red Bull’s motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko told “Sport1”.
According to Piastri, there is no truth to the speculation. The Australian is completing a strong Formula 1 season and ranks with 247 points in the drivers’ standings behind Max Verstappen (354), Lando Norris (297) and Charles Leclerc (275). He is also currently in first place in the constructors’ championship with McLaren.
Piastri joined the Woking racing team as a regular driver in 2023. The collaboration has so far paid off for both sides.
