The redesigned Ford Puma has arrived in domestic showrooms. The attractive crossover of the B segment received only a few changes to the body and many more novelties in the interior. We were able to personally see all of this at a dynamic press presentation organized for representatives of the seventh power by the importer of Ford vehicles for our country, the company Grand Motors.
From the outside, the Puma got a new front fascia. They are completely new headlights, which now arrive in full LED technology and in the lowest equipment package. The refreshment is also represented by the alloy wheels in new designs, while the body is available in six colors. All signs are now black. It is part of the general trend of dropping chrome details, since the process of chrome and nickel plating is not environmentally friendly.
The interior is a real surprise. The new large instrument and multimedia displays are absolutely dominant in the cabin. They have also changed the background in which they are integrated. It is covered with canvas similar to portable speakers. In front of the driver is a 12.8″ display, while the multimedia is 12 inches with a completely new menu, i.e. interface and data display.
The basis is the new “Sync4” software with recognition of voice commands. Not only is wireless Android Auto connectivity enabled (wireless Apple Car Play is previously available), but the user can use the car’s navigation and Android Auto display at the same time.
Another innovation is the relocation of the air conditioning controls to the display, in order to provide more space on the central console for storing phones (with induction charging), wallets and other small items. We also noticed that the armrest is now sliding, so there is better support for the elbow while driving. The seats are generally unchanged, but have received a new upholstery pattern with a combination of ski on the sides and microfiber in the central parts. We were quite surprised by the angular design of the new steering wheel, which lies nicely in the hands.
The new environmental standards also led to the electrification of the famous 1.0 Ecoboost engine. Versions with 125 and 155 horses are offered. All of them feature mild hybrid technology and front-wheel drive. The weaker version is available with a six-speed manual and seven-speed automatic transmission, while the stronger one is configured exclusively with an automatic. Regardless of engine power, Puma can be ordered with three equipment packages – Titanium, ST-Line and ST-Line X.
All of them have a large 12-inch multimedia display and the mentioned headlights in full LED technology and wireless Android Auto and Apple Car Play connectivity. Each copy has additionally tinted rear windows, alloy wheels, digital instrument panel, traffic sign recognition and keyless vehicle start. It is interesting that the equipment is the same on the Titanium and ST-Line package, but the only difference is the aesthetics in the form of red trim and other details.
The ST-Line X has partial leather seats, Bang & Olufsen sound system, power-folding mirrors with a cougar hologram projected on the ground, contactless unlocking and electric trunk opening.
If desired, it is possible to pay extra for the Driver Assist package. It includes a blind spot sensor, four 360-degree cameras and matrix headlights with predictive high beam based on camera data. Also, the adaptive cruise control has been improved, which now slows down in curves, when encountering intersections and roundabouts, as well as when turning on and off the highway. The vehicle uses a special “Electronic Horizon” feature that uses navigation and traffic sign recognition to adjust the vehicle’s speed. Automatic braking now also works when reversing, i.e. when detecting a potential collision with pedestrians, cyclists, vehicles and even boxes, trash cans,
containers and larger objects.
In addition to the Driver Assist package, customers have at their disposal the well-known Winter package with steering wheel, seat and windshield heaters, as well as the Comfort package. It includes the aforementioned electro-folding rear-view mirrors with puma hologram, wireless phone charger, contactless unlocking and electro-opening of the trunk. This makes it possible for the Titanium and ST-Line package to have everything that the ST-Line X has. Finally, there is also the option of ordering a panoramic roof with electric opening, which is an extra charge for all equipment packages.
The price of the redesigned Ford Puma starts at 21,990 eurosand all additional information can be found at www.ford.rs.
