The workers of Žirovska Alpine, who are on the list of redundant workers, have started receiving terminations of employment, Radio Slovenia reported. Due to the planned restructuring in Žire, the company is expected to lay off 83 employees, and 23 people will receive new contracts for employment in another department. By the end of the year, Žire should have 160 employees.

In August, after the conclusion of the collective vacation, the management of the company presented the planned reorganization and optimization of the group to the representatives of the workers and the trade union, according to which 60 employees will remain without work in Žire by the end of the year. Meanwhile, at the end of July, one of the two production units in Bosnia and Herzegovina also closed its doors.

Part of the production lines will be moved to the second production facility in Bosnia, namely the assembly lines of alpine skiing shoes, cross-country skiing and hiking shoes, and a chipper, Alpina explained to STA in August. At the company’s headquarters in Žire, the tool shop and departments for plastic casting, as well as jobs with high added value, i.e. the entire development, marketing and sales department, will remain.

The list is known

As Radio Slovenija reported today, the list of redundant workers is known, the president of the trade union in the company Janja Tinauer however, she said that there are 83 people involved, with 23 being offered new contracts in another department. Some of them are expected to wait before retirement, and 38 will receive notices for business reasons.

“People are disappointed, because they have been with the company for two or three decades. I hope that the institute will help them with some kind of new job,” added Tinauer, and according to radio reports, the Škofjeloška branch of the Employment Agency of the Republic of Slovenia is prepared and monitoring the situation.

According to the director of the Kranj regional unit of the institute Uros Kopavnik most of those laid off will reach the conditions for retirement at the time of receiving the cash compensation, however, they will prepare an employment plan with each of them. They are also offered jobs in other industries, regardless of the level of education, he added.

Last year, Alpina generated 38.8 million euros in sales. The loss amounted to 1.7 million euros, and the EBITDA value was 900,000 euros. The management of the company plans to realize 28 to 29 million euros in sales this year, which is about 25 percent less than the original plan. The loss is expected to amount to three million euros.

As the director pointed out in August Amadea Kavčič Jesenovecthe current steps they are forced to take are difficult and unpopular, but necessary to keep the company afloat. The reasons for them are the decrease in the need for production capacity, the high costs of energy products, transport and maintenance, the increase of the minimum wage and the great pressure of competition in terms of low production prices.
