After the MOMA in New York, the Sphere in Las Vegas and the Grammy gala, Refik Anadol’s work can be seen in Modem in Debrecen. The Turkish digital/new media creator living in Los Angeles since the beginning of the 2010s, the creator of contemporary art and immersive installations generated by artificial intelligence (AI), is exhibiting independently in Hungary for the first time. From airports to concert halls, from public squares to world-famous contemporary museums, his creations have been presented in many places around the globe, from Charlotte, North Carolina, through the Venice Biennale, Istanbul and Seoul to Melbourne.
In 2023, Anadol turned the Sphere in Las Vegas into the world’s largest AI-generated artwork; parallel to this, the audience of the artist’s light show could be seen by the public of New York’s MOMA for a year, and at the end of the year he presented his spectacular stage world at the Grammy gala, and this year his work will visit Debrecen between August 3 and 31. Modem presents Refik Anadol’s large-scale, 32-square-meter LED wall called Rumi Dreams, which is part of the XIII. It was built in memory of Mevlana Jalal ad-Din Rumi, a Persian poet, philosopher, scientist and Sufi mystic who lived in the 19th century. The purpose of the exhibition is to illustrate how digital and traditional art can be combined to create an immersive experience.
