Thanks to the two-year cooperation of the Rekovac Agricultural-Veterinary School with the Institute for the Application of Science in Agriculture, the school laid the foundations for the development of sample farms where blackberries, raspberries, strawberries and plums are produced.
Also, the school invested in the construction of a 520 square meter greenhouse where vegetables will be planted during the fall. This initiative significantly contributes to the improvement of practical teaching for school students, enabling them to acquire knowledge and skills in the field of modern agricultural production.
Rekovac has exemplary students
In addition, the Institute financed the purchase of 15 high-quality cows of the Holstein breed, known for its high milk production, which in the first lactation gives up to 30 liters of milk per day. It is also planned to purchase additional heads of the Simmental breed, in order to investigate the difference in milk production between these two breeds.
The school is in the process of building a modern barn with a milking parlor, as well as preparing four hectares of land for planting different fruit crops for experimental purposes. The plan is also to build a modern dairy that will enable the production of cheese for the students’ kitchen, which would further improve the quality of the students’ diet.
Director Ljubiša Stevanović also announced the arrangement of a park intended for all residents of Levča, with which the school makes an additional contribution to the local community. This year, the school enrolled four new first-year classes, out of a total of 14 classes, which represents a significant increase compared to previous years, when it had only nine classes. Increased interest in the school comes from different parts of Pomerania, and the Student Center has 102 students, which is a big increase compared to previous years.
As part of the “Erasmus Plus” program, first-year students have the opportunity to participate in international exchanges with Cyprus and Portugal. In addition, they are provided with free accommodation. The school can boast of awards won at numerous fairs, including third place at the “Red Gold of Serbia” exhibition in Vrnjačka Banja, as well as large gold medals for apple and cherry juices at the International Agricultural Fair.
The Jablanički district has inappropriate tomato moth larvae
At the same time, on the territory of the Jablanica district, tomato crops intended for autumn production are entering the ripening phase. Mines with larvae of the tomato moth (Tuta absoluta) were observed on tomato leaves. At the same time, damage caused by the penetration of larvae was visible on the fruits. An increased number of adults is registered on pheromone traps, and newly laid eggs of this pest have been observed on the reverse side of the leaves.
It is recommended to carry out treatment with the use of insecticides in order to suppress the larvae and prevent their further development. Some of the recommended insecticides include Zakon, Ampligo 150 ZC, Sever and Alverde. Manufacturers are advised to strictly take into account the waiting period and the maximum number of treatments. Due to high temperatures, treatments are recommended in the early morning or evening hours to ensure the effectiveness of plant protection.
