You thought you had seen the first takeoff of the Ariane 6 rocket, on Tuesday, July 9, from all angles? Think again: on August 4, the Air Force published a spectacular video taken from the cockpit of two Rafale aircraft tasked with securing the flight.
The Air and Space Force was mobilized to ensure the safety of this first flight, as for all launches from the Kourou base: this is Operation “Titan”. A detachment of three Rafales from the 4th Fighter Wing of Saint-Dizier (Haute-Marne) was called in as reinforcements on July 1st at Air Base 367. They took turns to carry out protection and surveillance missions, including on D-Day, July 9th, alongside the Fennec and Puma helicopters usually mobilized. In the event of a threat, the fighters armed with electromagnetic and infrared MICA air-to-air missiles can intervene quickly even at long range.
