Unfortunately, it was not possible to establish the names of the soldiers.

The Republican Search Expedition is working in the Stefan Voda region of Moldova. This year it is an anniversary expedition – the 15th in a row. The participants of the “Memory Watch” are searchers of the “August” detachment and the Russian Historical-Patriotic Club. For ten days they have been searching for military burials from the Great Patriotic War that have not yet been accounted for.

The site chosen for the excavations is significant – it was here that in the spring and summer of 1944, fierce battles took place for the territory of the Dniester bridgeheads, occupied by the Red Army during the battles for the liberation of Moldova from fascism.

As the searchers specified, more than 8 thousand soldiers and officers of the Red Army died in the area of the bridgehead near the village of Raskaets alone.

On the second day of the expedition, the remains of two Soviet soldiers were found in a ploughed field near the village of Raskaets. A newspaper was found on one of the dead, fragments of which were still legible. Unfortunately, it was not possible to establish the names of the soldiers.

The next morning, searchers discovered a “gift” from the past – a shell from the Great Patriotic War.

– It was fired, which means it was armed and ready to explode at any moment. The fact that it was not caught during plowing for 80 years can only be explained by a miracle. The explosive objects were handed over to representatives of the Joint Control Commission and the demining group of the Codru sapper battalion. Artillery shells, grenades and cartridges were taken away for destruction at the nearest training ground. The search continues, – said Alexey Petrovich.
