Remodeling works on the streets of Josep Tarradellas, Josep Irla and Josep Servat are underway

Works on the streets of Josep Tarradellas, Josep Irla and Josep Servat, in the neighborhood of Torrent de Llops

This week, remodeling works have begun on the streets of Josep Tarradellas, Josep Irla and Josep Servat, in the Torrent de Llops neighborhood. In these ways, the City Council will intervene by remodeling the sidewalks, improving and renovating the pavements, relocating and adapting pedestrian crossings and placing new street furniture. A new landscaped walking area will also be created, the lighting and drinking water networks will be expanded and renewed, and the green infrastructure and irrigation system will be increased.

These works aim to redefine and organize these streets and their surroundings in accordance with mobility and functionality parameters, and are expected to last around four and a half months. During this period, specific effects on public road parking are foreseen, to adapt to the needs of the actions.

The mayor of Martorell, Xavier Fonollosa, explains that he is acting on these three roads by doing “a total remodeling. Due to the roots of the trees, the sidewalks are wavy and pose a danger to pedestrians. And since we get down to it, we make them all new, changing trees and pavements”, among other actions.

The works will include, on the one hand, the remodeling of the sidewalks to adapt them to the accessibility regulations, and the improvement and renovation of the pavements, replacing the existing sidewalk with a new granite one. As for the pedestrian crossings, these will be adapted and relocated to increase safety and visibility, giving continuity to the adapted and accessible routes, and new street furniture will be placed.

On the other hand, a new landscaped walking area will also be created around the Caprabo and the Martorell Medical Center and the lighting network will be expanded and renewed, incorporating high energy efficiency LED lights. A renovation that will also be carried out in the drinking water network. Finally, the existing green infrastructure will be increased with the planting of new species of trees more suitable for the urban environment, and a new irrigation facility will be incorporated.

With this series of actions on public roads, the municipal government aims to achieve “a modern, tidy and accessible urban space for everyone”. Fonollosa emphasizes that this is “one of the main axes of the government’s action: continuing to rehabilitate, rethink and tidy up public roads as an element for better coexistence and social cohesion”. The objective is “to keep the town up to date, and to reach all the neighborhoods by responding, as always, to the demands and needs that people send us. And do it together with the neighbors and the associations, because together we do everything”.
