Renault Laguna Roadster: a futuristic convertible from the nineties

At the beginning of the nineties, Renault imagined the ideal sports car exactly like this, which is confirmed by the Laguna Roadster. This concept, presented at the Paris Motor Show in 1990, was inspired by speedsters from the fifties and sixties, as well as legendary sports cars such as the first Alpine A110. It stands out with its avant-garde design and numerous innovative solutions that maximize driving pleasure.

With its low and elegant silhouette of 4.11 meters in length, the Renault Laguna Roadster seems like a car from the future – at least according to the style criteria of the nineties.

The blue body with gray details gives the impression of dynamics and fluidity, while the electronically controlled “gull wing” doors combine technology with the style of exotic supercars.

However, the real specialty of this Renault is Cruising Stereo. It is a special helmet equipped with visors and headphones that protects the eyes (due to the lack of a windshield) and enables a superior sound experience thanks to a specially developed Philips audio system.

Under the hood of this Renault is a two-liter engine derived from the Renault 21 Turbo, but upgraded to deliver 210 hp.

This four-cylinder engine enables a maximum speed of over 250 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just six seconds. Impressive performance for that power was also achieved thanks to the lightweight body structure made of carbon and Kevlar.

Unfortunately, the Roadster never saw series production, although the Renault Spider, built from 1996 to 1999, partially shared this philosophy.
