Renault off the podium in Portugal. See the best-selling brands until September – Automotive

In the first nine months of this year, 157,842 new passenger cars were registered in Portugal, 2.9% more than in the same period of 2023, according to data released last Tuesday by the Automobile Association of Portugal (ACAP).

A Peugeotsales leader in our country since 2021 – the year in which it put an end to the 22-year reign of Renaultremains at the top of the Portuguese preferences, having reached September 30th with 15,857 units delivered, still a year-on-year drop of 8.1%.

I and Mercedes-Benzwhich in 2023 ended the year in third position, moves up a notch and is now the second most popular brand with 12,520 cars sold, representing an increase of 16.8%. Closing the podium comes the Daciawhich in 2023 had ranked fourth. Groupe Renault’s Romanian brand delivered 12,008 units, 8.3% more than a year earlier.

The “diamond brand” fell from the podium – it ended 2023 as the second best-selling brand – and occupies fourth position with a drop of 5% to 11,414 cars.

A BMW maintains the fifth place it finished last year and has delivered 10,079 cars, 2.6% less year-on-year.

It follows Toyotawith 8,557 units and growth of 9.6%. The Japanese brand thus surpasses the Volkswagenwhich registered a decrease of 9.3%, to 8,486 units.

A Citroën rises one place compared to the 2023 total and is now the eighth brand with the highest sales volume: 8,186 cars and an increase of 10.4%. Just behind is the Tesla – which closed last year in eighth place – with an 18% increase in sales to 7,227 cars.

Closing the Top 10 is Seatwhich holds the 2023 rating despite an 8.5% reduction in sales, to 5,932 units.

Threatening to enter the top ten are the Come onwhich is just 13 cars away from equaling Seat, and Nissanwhich totals 5,511 units sold in the first nine months of the year.

A Volvo stands out in 13th position (four places above the 17th position in 2023 as a whole) thanks to a jump of 35.9%, to 5,347 vehicles.

In contrast, Opel and Ford show strong year-on-year declines: 21% and 26.1%, respectively.

Another aspect to highlight is the performance of the chinese WORLDwhich totals 1,908 units delivered and appears in twentieth position.

One last note for Lamborghiniwhich doubled sales to 26 units (already well above the 17 cars sold last year), as well as to the Lotuswhich delivered five vehicles compared to the only car sold in all of 2023, and for Rolls-Roycewhich has already sold three vehicles, two of which are electric.
