A groundbreaking study compared expensive anti-aging serums and much more affordable ones. Led by experts from the Mayo Clinic, the trials were funded by a relatively expensive skincare manufacturer and carried out on a luxury serum made from human platelet extract (HPE), costing almost 240 euros for one 15ml bottle.
But when it was compared to other treatments on the market, which were much more accessible, the scientists had to admit that the most economical option was much more effective for the skin.
This is a vitamin C serum sold at €4.80
So what is this serum that is full of benefits for the skin, at a low price? This is a Inkey List 15% Vitamin C & EGF Serumsold at £3.99, or around €4.80, at Boots. The scientists also found that products sold for less than 20 euros in British supermarkets or specialist stores, such as Tesco or Superdrug, were also more effective.
Vitamin C serums, useful against dark spots and wrinkles
Vitamin C serums are known to combat the signs of aging, including dark spots, wrinkles, and uneven skin tone. After six months of daily use, the effects of the vitamin C serum were significantly more noticeable.
The research team recruited 60 people, whose average age was 52 years, to test the serums over a period of 26 weeks in total. After 12 weeks, participants showed approximately a 27% reduction in dark spots with HPE and a 32% reduction with vitamin C. In contrast, both treatments revealed similar effectiveness on wrinkles of approximately 15 to 17%.

Another notable fact is that the improvements made by these serums exceeded those typically seen with more invasive treatments like intense pulsed light therapy, which only showed a 7.5% reduction in dark spots in previous studies.
