Resetting Google TV Streamer: this is how you start with a clean slate
The Google TV Streamer is an excellent media player, but you may encounter (unexplained) problems. It often helps to reset the device, so that you start with a clean slate. Resetting the Google TV Streamer is also useful if you have sold it. Your accounts will then be deleted from the TV Streamer.
Please note: If you reset your Google TV Streamer, all data and personal settings will be lost. The media player returns to factory settings, making it feel like you are taking it out of the box for the first time. You cannot retrieve your deleted data afterwards.
As with the Chromecast with Google TV, there are two ways to reset the Google TV Streamer. This can be done via the settings, or you press a button on the back of the Streamer.
- Go to the home screen of your Google TV Streamer, select your profile at the top right and press ‘All settings’;
- Navigate to ‘System’ and select ‘About > Restore factory settings’;
- Confirm your choice to reset the Google TV Streamer.
There is a button on the back of the Google TV Streamer that you can press to reset the device. It works like this:
- First of all, make sure the Google TV Streamer is turned on;
- Press the button on the back and hold it for ten to twelve seconds. If all goes well, the light will start flashing yellow;
- Release the button when the light turns white. Your Google TV Streamer will now be reset.
Over the Google TV Streamer
The Google TV Streamer is the successor to the Chromecast with Google TV, which is no longer available in the Netherlands. With a suggested retail price of 119 euro the Streamer is a lot more expensive than the Chromecast, although it has been improved in many areas. The latest media player is considerably faster and has more storage space. This allows you to install many more apps.
Google also supplies the TV Streamer with a new remote control. The back of the remote has a pattern, which gives you more grip. Furthermore, some buttons have a different location and there is a button that you can link to an app yourself. This way you can start your favorite streaming service in one go.
