Since the launch of the iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max, more and more AAA big-budget games have been coming to iOS. However, it seems that they are not very popular with the audience. The latest example is Resident Evil 7.
Resident Evil 7 debuted on the App Store on July 2. According to estimates from analytics firm Appmagic, its free demo has been downloaded over 83,000 times, but fewer than 2,000 people have purchased the full version. The game has earned about $28,000 so far (30% of that amount will go to Apple as a commission on sales). It is therefore very likely that Capcom, the company responsible for it, has not even recouped the costs of porting it to Apple platforms (many people suspect that Apple pays developers to port AAA games to iOS, although this has never been officially confirmed).
Resident Evil 7 is not the first (and probably not the last) major game ported to iOS from consoles and PCs that doesn’t sell very well. Assassin’s Creed Mirage – one of the most hyped AAA games on iOS, which debuted in the App Store in June (after a significant delay) was downloaded over 120 thousand times, but only 3 thousand people decided to buy the full version. Resident Evil 4 Remake, available in the App Store for over half a year, was downloaded 357 thousand times, which translated into 7 thousand copies sold.
