Although we love gaming, for some reason we find that mobile games and especially AAA titles, sometimes they may not be as successful on certain devices as they are on other platforms.
Despite Apple’s promise of improved console-like gaming capabilities on iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, not many users seem willing to pay a lot of money for a game on their mobile, they prefer to play the same title on PC or console and have a much better experience.
CAPCOM has a special relationship with Apple. The iconic Japanese game developer and publisher has already released several games Resident Evil στο iOS, many of which are considered AAA titles.
Unfortunately, most of them failed as gamers would prefer to play them on platforms other than iOS or Android. The latest example is CAPCOM’s Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which sold less than 2,000 copies on iOS.
According to a new report from MobileGamer.biz, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has been downloaded 83,000 times since its iOS release on July 2. However, the above figure can be misleading and that’s because it doesn’t mean that over 80,000 people have decided to pay for the game because Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is available for free to try.
To unlock the full game, must pay $19.99 / €19.99 / £15.99 and many of the users who downloaded the game have not. MobileGamer.biz claims that less than 2,000 gamers decided to purchase the game on their iPhones, which would result in roughly $28,000 in revenue. If we factor in Apple’s 30% cut, then CAPCOM’s revenue is much smaller.
The same report adds that the previous titles released by CAPCOM on iOS, Resident Evil 4 Remake and Resident Evil Village fared slightly better with 7,000 and 5,750 copies for iOS, respectively.
